Let's Talk About Issues, Baby!

Since the beginning of his campaign, Richard Mourdock has said he was running a campaign of issues important to Indiana.

A quick Google search shows that Mourdock has done anything BUT discuss any actual issue.

While Dick Lugar was fighting President Obama's decision to bomb Libya, where was Richard Mourdock?

While Dick Lugar was working with Senate Republicans to pass historic spending cuts and responsibly fund the rest of this year, where was Richard Mourdock?

This could go on for pages.  One look at the record of Dick Lugar shows the tremendous amount of work he's accomplished for Indiana and the United States.

What has Richard Mourdock really accomplished for him to be a qualified U.S. Senate candidate?  He has yet to answer this question.

Simply stating how you'd vote on an issue offers zero insight as to how you'd make that decision and why it's best for Indiana as a whole.  Dick Lugar carefully calculates each decision he makes and its bottom line effect on Hoosiers.  Does the State Treasurer have that level of credibility? Who knows.

We're waiting, Richard.  All of Indiana is waiting.

Having Money Isn't Everything...

Let's recap the Q1 fundraising totals for Indiana's US Senate race.

Senator Dick Lugar: $973,000 raised, $3 million cash on hand.

Congressman Joe Donnelly: $363,000 raised, $338,000 cash on hand.

Treasurer Richard Mourdock: $159,000 raised, $122,000 cash on hand.

Lugar outraised Donnelly by almost a factor of three, and Mourdock by a factor of more than six. The cash on hand numbers are even more striking. As a wise man once said: "Having money's not everything. Not having it is."

I know Treasurer Mourdock is counting on out of state interests to swoop in and do the work that he can't do on his own, but he's not doing them any favors. If he can't even keep up with the leading Democrat contender, why would they bail him out again if he somehow makes it to the general?

Since the Civil War Hoosiers haven't responded well to outsiders exerting their force on our small but mighty state. Mourdock has been open that he'll need plenty of outside-Indiana funds to win this election.

He is continually popping in and out of the media making claims about his 'lists' and all the ways he can win this race from nearly every source BUT Indiana.

Just because you are the loudest the voice in the room, does not mean you offer the best options.

Personally, we wonder if Mourdock's staff gets it, if they take him out every morning and let him know.

A Man to Emulate

Just to remind yourself why it's so important to keep Senator Lugar working for Indiana in the United States Senate, go ahead and click this link *warning: adult language* (http://www.esquire.com/features/list-of-men-0509) and check out slide #37.

Could Treasurer Mourdock be described in similar terms?  Maybe that's a question for Monica Boyer and Greg Fettig from Hoosiers for a Conservative Senate.

What counts as 'content' anyway??

Take a good long look at this tweet.   Are you as stunned by its idiocy as I am?

Mr. Perry fancies himself a "Professional Content Provider."  Now I can't tell you whether or not Mr. Perry was remunerated for that particular tweet, but if so Treasurer Mourdock should ask for his money back.

As I understand it, the premise of Mr. Perry's tweet is that Senator Lugar is running for re-election because he has nothing better to do with his time.  Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the good Senator would prefer spending time with his beloved grandchildren and tending to his farm.  But you know what, we live in a country that is facing some pretty daunting challenges.  Maybe instead of deriding his service, we should cheer his willingness to fight for us in Washington.

After all, not everyone has what it takes to hack it as a Professional Content Provider.

Campaign Finance Fudge?

First topic. Earlier this week Mourdock told the press that he raised "around $125,000" in his first month of campaigning (http://www.politico.com/blogs/davidcatanese/0311/Mourdock_raises_125K_picking_off_Lugar_donors.html).

But wait, his campaign mailing (copied below) explicitly says they're $4k short of that amount three days after that story was published, which just happens to be more than five weeks, not four, into his campaign.

Why didn't he tell the reporter he had raised "around $120,000 in the first month" or he "hoped to raise $125,000 in the first quarter"? Why the willfully misleading accounting fudge from the officer in charge of safeguarding our state's finances?

Dear Supporter:

Hi, I am Ashlee Walls, Fundraiser for Richard Mourdock's Senatorial campaign. In case you missed Richard's email yesterday, I wanted to forward it to you and remind you of the important fundraising deadline that ends midnight tonight.

We have set an internal goal of raising $125,000. With your help, we are only $4,000 away! Your donation towards our goal will show Indiana Republicans that it is time to send a conservative to Capitol Hill.

Thank you,
Ashlee Walls
